MANHOOD,

DON'T LET YOUR SONS LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT.

Backstory

I can still remember the moment. We were celebrating Alex's son's 11th birthday and he looked at me and said, "I've got about 7 or 8 more years". It only took about 2 seconds to realize that he was referring to the time left til his son transitions into manhood and as it stood, my own sons were only a year behind. Manhood, what does that even mean or look like? Is it learning to shave? Is it joining the military? Is it being a super patriot? Is it some magical right of passage that just happens? Does it mean having the inevitable 'talk' about the birds and the bees?

Well, tossing a ball or tightening a bike chain is one thing, but teaching manhood seemed a bit more complex and did we even feel qualified to communicate such knowledge based on what our fathers did or didn't teach us?

Well, for us it wasn't a question of male bonding, good parenting, creating memories or investing in our kids because we have it covered. It was more like chronologically speaking, we knew we only had a small window of time to communicate something so massive and we knew we needed a strategy, a deeper level of how to impart what many fathers leave up to chance, which is a clear definition of Authentic Manhood.

It was our God given responsibility to demonstrate it, live it out and teach it. Of all the things we could give them, we knew that this was one of the most important because it would impact and shape the rest of their lives in every way. What started out as two close friends meeting for morning prayer, turned into a vision to capture the attention of our sons, so they could have a vast arsenal of masculine, ethical and Godly principles to draw from before they walk out our doors.
